Words From the kun!

Headhunters

I recently received this note from the Lt’s at Kunsan regarding the status of Brunigan’s hooch. For those who are unfamiliar, it is the squadron bar that has been our sacred gathering place for many years. Please read the note from punk lead and consider helping them out if able. To HH01 the Juvats,

A few weeks ago, as the sun set over the Yellow Sea, I and 15 other wingmen neared the end of our 8.0 hour ride by scooter. See...the Juvats had not been at Kunsan for the past 6-9 months. As Kunsan underwent an extensive runway rebuild, Wolf sent us north to Osan with nothing but our jets and Woody Juvat to keep us company. To our surprise, the contractors had actually completed the project on time, and we were finally going home. Before flying the jets down, we pre-staged our fleet of 49cc scooters and embarked on what is now widely known as "The Ride of Legends".  At 30 mph it takes nearly a full day of riding through the steamy South Korean backstreets.  At first, it seemed our fellowship was illfated--we were plagued with maintenance issues, crashes, and mind-cracking hangovers; however, as the sun slipped beneath the green water of the Yellow sea--we knew we were near Kunsan, and our burdens washed away like tears in rain.

Saddle-sore, sweaty, and dehydrated, we had only one thing on our mind when we got back to the base--Bruni's. Every Juvat had been counting the days until we could crack open a cold one on the colored tiles of our very own bar.  Unfortunately, when that fateful day arrived, we were met with a disparging sight. It seemed that our aged-addled hooch had been razed by typhoon season--all while we were away and unable to maintain Bruni's like we usually do. A hole in the roof caused pretty extensive damage to the building; wall rot, ceiling leaks, and issues with the electrical system. Knowing that ignoring the issues would only cause further damage we’ve decided to take matters into our own hands. Additionally, it is opportune time for a much needed rennovation of the interior -- revamping the audio-visual system, replacing and upgrading the lights, adding a deck to the front, and repairing the holes in the walls (undoubtedly from participating in the sacred tradition of Panton bashing).

However, after meeting with contractors to finalize the technical aspects of the restoration, it became evident that meager funds would not be enough to bring Brunigan's back to being Code 1. Knowing the generational bond between all Juvats, we thought that if we reached out for help we could raise the funds necessary for the project. So, we started a GoFundMe and want to disseminate it to every Juvat at any corner of the earth. The contractors quote the minimum expense to be $15,000, but the more we raise, the more funds that can go into repairs and renovations. Bruni's requires many more repairs and additions than just the roof, including a remodel of the interior of the building to add space; furthermore, all funds not spent directly on this rebuild will be stored in a special Snacko account earmarked for Brunigan's repairs--should any damages occur in the future.

I know that you have a strong and connected audience, and I hope you will let the 80 FS Alumni know that they have the opportunity to give back to the place that gave them so many fond memories and helped build lifelong friendships. Whether it is 80 cents or $80, any donation helps. Everyone who donates to the restoration project will have their name on a plaque that gets mounted on the wall of Brunigan's once the renovation is finished; addtionally, before and after pictures of the building will be sent out so that everyone is able to see the impact they had on the 80th FS.

Please reach out with any questions, and remember, you'll always be a Juvat, no matter where you go...
